I agree completely. I think that 2 great things about Facebook as a social networking/marketing tool are 1) it's way easier than building managing a web page so lots of people can participate (and it is participatory) and 2) It's got a significant fun factor that brings people back (for example, you sometimes get unexpected delights).

I also like the way that personal stuff and business stuff get combined. I think that's what makes it work so well for marketing -- even when they're goofing off, they can get a message from a business they're a fan of telling them about a new color their favorite tennis shoe is now available in (and hey, click here to order).

Thanks for responding. Monetizing social media sites is a necessary aspect of any free social media website. In order to pay for all of the time and money that goes into developing,programming and maintaining these sites, the site owners must either charge for the service, or sell ad space. One of the potential benefits of Facebook over most website banner ads is that when a user is logged into Facebook, they know a great deal about the user's interests and so they can personalize the ads relevant to the user instead of just the page content.

We have had great success using Facebook advertising as well as Google Adwords and private banner ad systems. From an advertiser point of view, Facebook offers more demographic options and thus highly targeted ads.

I think it would be a whole lot better if you was disable the adds altogether. none of them seem tto be relevant to me and they just seem to annoy me

I do it too, I use google analytics, which is a principal tool for online marketing now.
